The Right Way To Plant Tomatoes (And Get Plants Up To 8 Feet High)

It’s a great feeling to know that you grew the tomatoes yourself, and if this is something you want in your life it can absolutely be done. Simple steps like getting good soil will help with growing success!

Check out the most important tips for growing your own tomatoes!

1. Plant them deeply

Planting more than half of the plant underground will allow for stronger and healthier growth. This is because when you bury tomatoes’ roots, they grow in greater quantities to make up for lost space!

2. Plant sideways if you can’t go deep

If you don’t like to get your hands dirty, plant the tomato on its side and make sure it is at least five or six inches deep.

3. Keep the tomatoes well-fed

Tomatoes are one of the most versatile veggies you can grow. They’re also really fun to eat! Tomatoes need lots of sunlight and good dirt – which isn’t all that hard if your soil is healthy in the first place.

To give them an extra boost, fertilize once per month with any organic fertilizer for optimum results.

4. Offer them support

When the tomato plant is large enough, add a stake or other form of support to tie your plants upright.

Tomatoes need more help than most veggies in order just stand tall while they grow–and you could probably use all the assistance possible!

5. Use natural fertilizer

If you want to keep slugs away, add crushed eggshells and coffee grounds into the soil. It will also help with nutrients!

You can mix raw eggs in at planting time too for added protection against garden pests like worms or nematodes.

6. Keep them trimmed

If you don’t want your tomatoes to taste like dirt, make sure they’re taken care of. Remove dying fruit and leaves from the plant itself as well as checking for any signs that may indicate it’s getting too heavy on top.
